Solar power is the best power!
Because it is:-
The cheapest, cleanest, safest, most reliable and permanent source of energy.
Emits no CO2 while producing energy, no need to burn stuff.
Free to all, owned by nobody, cannot be hoarded by countries or companies and sold at a high price.
Energy on your roof which does not need to be transported anywhere.
Energy which gets cheaper the more it’s used (The Economist, 2024)
The most ‘democratic’ power: anyone can own a solar panel!
One tonne of solar panels can generate about 350 MWh over 25 years. One tonne of coal can generate only about 2 MWh of electricity
About 12% of the world’s fossil fuel usage is just to produce, refine and transport fossil fuels.
With solar (and wind) energy, the Sun does all this for free!
Solar energy is nuclear energy!

Created by nuclear fusion in the core of the Sun and then radiated to Earth.
Available almost everywhere, every day during daylight hours.
Why dig up and burn parts of the Earth’s crust to produce energy?
The Sun produces enough energy for us, for free.
Even wind power relies on the Sun
Wind is the movement of air across the Earth’s surface, powered by solar radiation and differences in surface heating.
What's the urgency?
Climate change - we caused it - we must stop it!
Global warming and climate change are caused by the ‘Greenhouse Effect’ in the following way:
-
Short-wave (visible) energy from the Sun warms the Earth.
-
The warmed Earth radiates longer-wavelength infrared (heat) energy back.
-
Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and water vapour, absorb some of this outgoing heat and re-emit it in all directions, including back to the surface, keeping the planet warm enough for life.
-
Human emissions of greenhouse gases have changed the balance of this radiation and caused the Earth to get warmer.
-
A well-known US president has stated that the UN’s predictions about the impacts of climate change have been exaggerated or are incorrect.
He called it "the greatest con job perpetrated by the world".
Fact check:
There is overwhelming scientific evidence and consensus from 99%+ of scientists worldwide that climate change is occurring, is human-caused and poses significant risks to human health, the environment and the global economy.
Stop burning fossil fuels & heating up the earth!
Burning fossil fuel emits mainly CO2 which traps heat in the atmosphere and is the dominant cause of global warming.
The global average temperature for the 10-year period from 2015 to 2024 is estimated to be the highest on record, at around 1.24 to 1.28°C above pre-industrial levels.
Limiting global warming to 1.5°C is crucial because risks to ecosystems, agriculture and human health, such as extreme heat and sea-level rise, are significantly worse at 2°C.
This requires a rapid phase-out of burning fossil fuels.
Solar Powered Tring is a one-year campaign by Sustainable Tring, aiming to accelerate the uptake of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems by residents, community buildings including schools, and businesses.
